Tingdene Marinas Limited is delighted to announce that Thames & Kennet marina has once again achieved the highest possible mark of quality, the Five Gold Anchor Award, from industry trade body The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA). This is the third time it has successfully made the grade and it remains one of just 101 marinas globally to have attained this prestigious standard.
Thames & Kennet Marina’s Five Gold Anchor Award ceremony was held at Tingdene’s
Southampton Boat Show stand E039 with, from left to right, TYHA General Manager Jon White, marina manager Lee Gibbons and berth-holders Chris and Dave Armstrong
The 450-berth Thames & Kennet Marina is located in the heart of the Thames near Reading in Berkshire and at the junction with the Kennet and Avon Canal. It features two mooring basins with floating modern pontoon facilities for motor cruisers, narrowboats and barges up to 82ft. Tingdene Marinas has made considerable investment in services and facilities since acquiring this important haven in 2004.
To attain a Five Gold Anchor Award the marina must offer very high quality facilities and provide excellent service. It must pass a site inspection, three mystery shopper checks and receive positive feedback from a berth-holders survey.
Dave and Chris Armstrong have been Thames & Kennet berth-holders since February 2016: “Tingdene staff are all brilliant,” Dave says. “We bought our Freeman 27 motor cruiser from Russ Dew at Upton Marina and now we have part-exchanged it for the new Broom 30HT Coupe that is here at the Southampton Boat Show. Marina manager Lee Gibbons and his Thames and Kennet team have looked after us ever so well – even when we needed assistance as far away as Hampton Court. Their service has been second to none.”
Presenting Lee with the Award at the Southampton Boat Show, TYHA General Manager Jon White said: “We are continually raising the already high standards demanded of Gold Anchor status marinas, so it’s a great endorsement for Thames & Kennet Marina to have once again attained Five Gold Anchors.”
Steve Arber, Operations Director said: “This is a well deserved accolade for Lee and his team at Thames & Kennet. They are constantly going the extra mile to look after our customers, or in Chris and Dave Armstrong’s case, the extra 40-plus miles! We expect to see our Five Gold Anchors flag flying for many years to come.”

The TYHA Gold Anchor Award scheme
The Gold Anchor award scheme has been auditing marinas throughout the world for over 25 years and is well known as a credible measure of the marina quality. Any rated marina will have been subject to a serious of rigorous tests, including:
The Marina Audit
A comprehensive set of criteria that is checked and surveyed by a marina expert. This audit counts for 80 per cent of the Gold Anchor score, but if the marina does not meet the basic industry standards it cannot achieve any Gold Anchors.
A series of 3 mystery shops test the marinas approach to customer services and the first impressions that it offers. The results of this test counts for 10 per cent of the Gold Anchor score.
Berth Holders Questionnaires
Existing berth holders at a Gold Anchor marina are surveyed for their experiences of the facilities and customer services. This represents 10 per cent of the final Gold Anchor score.
