First phase of boat mooring renewal programme completed.
Boating on the Great Ouse and wider Fenland waterways is receiving a welcome boost, thanks to Tingdene Marinas’ decision to completely renew the boat mooring pontoon systems at Hartford Marina.
This £1.2m infrastructure programme is additional to the ongoing improvements that the company has been making to Hartford’s extensive facilities since it acquired the marina, two years ago.
Hartford Marina is a jewel in the crown on the River Great Ouse in Wyton, Cambridgeshire. It can be accessed from the coast via The Wash, or from the canal network via the River Nene and Middle Levels.
Phase 1 of the boat mooring renewal programme has seen the opening of Pier D, designed for up to 50 motorboats including the largest narrowboats, wide beams and Dutch barges up to 70ft.
Tingdene will be planning each subsequent phase of the pontoon rebuild to match perfectly the requirements of berthholders and expects high demand from everyone
with a small motor launch to the largest of motorboats found on the Fenland waterways.
Steve Arber, Operations Director said: “Our programme encompasses a complete renewal of the boat mooring system at Hartford. We have utilised state of the art pontoons supplied by Walcon Marine, installed by local company Irvins and equipped with smart metered electrical supplies by Rolec. This has been a great partnership – we’re very pleased with the service and quality of the completed Pier D and know from early comments that our customers here are similarly impressed. We’ll now turn our attention to further phases of the project, which will provide the first opportunity since the marina was built in the 1960s to tailor it precisely to the needs of berthholders and visitors today.
“In parallel with this development, we’re doubling our staff team in the Tingdene Boat Sales office so that we can reinforce the work we do with pre-owned boats and commence selling new boats onto the Great Ouse again, reinvigorating activity on this hidden gem of a river.
“We’re also looking at a renewal of the toilets and showers, to add to improvements already made to the houseboat pontoons, the building and other facilities at the marina.”
The marina offers a full range of services including a workshop, chandlery, fuel and gas, and pump out. Berth-holders and visitors enjoy their boats in an extremely attractive country setting, yet have all required facilities to hand and can reach the marina by car very easily via the A1 and A14. The attractive market towns of Huntingdon and St Ives lie close by.
“Hartford Marina has an excellent reputation as a friendly place to visit and keep your boat, thanks to our highly experienced staff and wide range of facilities. With this busy programme of improvements, we’re also confident it will become one of the notable destination marinas on the UK inland network and expect a busy 2018 paying close attention to the requirements of our loyal berthholders as well as welcoming other boat owners to enjoy what is here.”
