Welcome to Thames & Kennet Marina - Download PDF here

The Thames & Kennet Marina is based just outside Reading in a nature reserve and incorporates a narrow boat and cruiser marina. With the ability to cater for a number of types of boats, including Dutch barges, the facility is unique in the area and has the best access to the Thames River and Kennet canal. As a new facility, all amenities are up to date and as a part of the Tingdene Group of companies, standards are always high and maintenance and development ongoing.

With two specific marinas, ample parking and easy access for numerous areas in and around Reading, this new site has everything a boater wants and more. We welcome long and short term berths to the facility so, just because you are not permanently in the area it does not mean you cannot make the most of these great facilities.

The specially designed picturesque narrow boat marina has been created to maximise manoeuvrability. With all the latest facilities, pontoons are coupled with a luxurious site with state of the art security and facilities making this the ideal place to site a boat for weekend or permanent use.

With new moorings designed with space in mind, the cruiser marina is able to accommodate a wide range of craft, from the small day boat to the enormous Dutch barge up to 25 meters (82 feet) in length. The facility has been specially designed with security in mind meaning your investment is safe and time spent at the marina is relaxed and hassle free.

Thames & Kennet Marina News

Spring 2010 Issue

                                            Fingers Crossed

Let us hope this long cold winter will give us a lovely summer. Please remember to show consideration when driving on the lane as both animals and people will be out to enjoy the long overdue nicer weather.

Our Summer Party

This year our party will be on the 19th June, the Weather Gods have been consulted and suitably bribed and the DJ booked.

Food will again be provided by The Waterfront. Ray has taken the opportunity to have a little Real Ale Festival as well so there will be plenty of exciting brews on offer. Please support this initiative.

With a bit of luck we can also look forward to a little gig by our Berth Holder Jamming Band. This year we would like to see all our berth holders as this will be Phill’s last marina party as manager. He will be retiring later in the year. As always tickets can be collected from the chandlery from the 1st April.

Car Passes

Please find enclosed two vehicle stickers. From this spring we will allow two vehicles per boat, no exceptions. Please put your berth number on the stickers to make them valid. If you are getting this by e-mail please come and collect your stickers in person, thank you.

Nesting Birds on Boats

Last year we had quite a few berth holders who came back from their winter hibernation only to find that their long awaited spring cruising had to be put on hold. Coots had built nests on the bathing platforms and could not be moved.  The berth holders in question decided against moving their boats out of kindness but it is worth noting that it is an offence to disturb nesting birds and carries a hefty fine. Preventing birds from nesting on your boat therefore seems to be the best way. Netting or possibly old computer discs could be a way of doing this.

Ashes

Can we please ask all our berth holders with solid fuel stoves to let the ashes cool in a metal bucket or similar and bag it and put it in the bin rather than emptying it over the side. We realize it is a bit more hassle but ashes can be very detrimental to wildlife. Furthermore it will change the bottom structure of the Marina which will eventually mean very costly dredging.

Boats for Sale

If you are thinking of selling your boat Jo and Fred in our boatsales will be happy to have a chat with you about how to go about it in the best way.

Bins and Bottles

Please use the bottle banks for all glass bottles and jars. The broken glass from the bins is spread on the road after they have been emptied.

New Mooring Licence

In a short while you will all receive our new contract to be signed. Please sign and return both copies and keep the Licence part. Thank you.

Oil Disposal

When disposing of dirty oil please empty it in to the Oil Disposal Bin and discard the used containers in the bins. Please do not leave them for some poor staff member to empty. And please remember to close the lid. Paying for the water to be separated out is an unnecessary and very costly affair.

Lane Matters

As you will all have noticed most of the trees along the lane have been removed. This was unfortunately necessary as they were completely rotten and therefore posed a serious risk to all lane users. The good news is that this will give the new saplings much better conditions to grow. A thorough wildlife survey was carried about before the work commenced. This is all part of the efforts of the landlord Lafarge to reinstate/ improve the area for wildlife.

As the quarry closes down we are taking over the responsibility for the lane so please help us by reporting any fly tippers and driving carefully to protect wildlife and fellow berth holders.

Trolleys - Again

Can we please again remind everyone that trolleys are to be returned to the top of the ramp straight away. Can we also please ask that berth holders from the Narrowboat Marina bring a trolley from there when buying coal, gas etc. Please show consideration for your fellow berth holders, thank you.

Dogs - Again

And again we remind all dog owners to keep their dog on a lead on the pontoons and keep it under control everywhere on the premisses. We will not tolerate dogs posing a threat to wild life or other berth holders. Keeping your dog under control also means clearing up mess after it. Thank you.

Our Youngest Berth Holders

Please make sure your children are supervised at all times when playing on the grounds especially near the water. Can we also ask that there are no bicycles, scooters or other play items left where others can trip over them and injure themselves, thank you. Trip hazards will be removed.

Launderette

Can we please remind all users of the launderette that it is to be used for washing clothes and drying clothes in the dryer. Clothes should not be left hanging to dry anywhere in the shower block.
